Recycling in Chicago
|

At a recent office happy hour, several staff mentioned how they "know" Chicago's blue bag recycling system doesn't work.
But they still do it anyway. Here's why: Some companies have started mining landfills for recycling and finding blue bags in a landfill will make it easier to mine - this is when blue bag recycling will do what it was supposed to do.
Slate wrote about this in November, 2007, but they didn't mention any companies by name, and my limited research just now yielded no companies.

Seriously, this thinking the democrats are suddenly invincible is frightening. about as frightening as total dominant control from republicans.
does anyone ever wonder why democrats spend so much time campaigning in states with manufacturing jobs? shouldn't they be pushing for those manufacturing jobs to be outsourced, thus earning more money for corporations to allow higher profits and hire Americans to do technologically/medically/all around more educated work?
seriously, who wants their kids to work on an assembly line? no one. everyone wants doctors/lawyers/teachers of their children. we need to lose those jobs and advance our society as much as possible. i feel like democrats campaign to these people by praying on their lack of education by offering illogical promises.
universal healthcare? yeah, i can't wait to continue working two jobs so i can pay for someone to have full medical coverage...while being on welfare because they won't apply themselves for a career.
a lot of people are quick to talk about gas, mention how they don't want the late 70s or 80s to repeat with a shortage...the problem was, most of the people pushing for this don't understand there never was a full- on shortage. the pictures of cars waiting for gas was caused by a lack of refineries in the US, plus the destruction of west coast plants. those high prices and waiting on the west coast never even made it to the midwest.
when you mail a package overnight? who do you choose? a major corporation like UPS, FedEx....certainly not the federal government. the USPS used to say overnight shipping was impossible. thanks to Americans competing and striving for excellence, we can send anything, anywhere, overnight...and competition through industry has kept prices cheaper. think about how efficient the FAA and DMV could be...
when businesses compete, consumers win. plan and simple. hell, the federal government chose Haliburton not only because of Cheney, but because they still continue to fuel the military, serve troops food, deliver goods and such...faster than the military was doing for itself previously. look it up sometime. its been quoted by members of the armed forces that a single Haliburton employee can provide everything the military previously did and faster than three soldiers did. once again, corporations compete to get your business. when its up to the government, no one gets fired, there's no incentive for creativity or effort [laws created by democrats have stopped pay raises for excellent behavior as a form of discrimination] work doesn't get done and we allow other countries to pass us up.
I'm not trying to say republicans have been the solution to all of lifes problems, but i'm sure as shit not saying democrats are any blessing either. they've made our government substantially larger than we really need by providing unnecessary regulation to every bit of our lives [remember parental advisories on what was acceptable to listen to according to al gore's wife?]
All i'm saying is give Libertarianism a change. |

hi guys!
i wanted to speak to you about my webzine, pseudononymous. so far it's focused on the music&arts but because of a dispute over its direction we're definitely taking it in the direction we want to, which follows a more traditional set of storylines -- political and social issues as well as music and the arts, which we believe to be integral.
there's not much content on it now because of the coming and going of many of the founders, but i'm hoping that some of you will either put it on a feed or keep checking back, since we want to update as regularly as possible from now on.
thanks so much for your support, and please, if you have any suggestions or if you would like to write for the webzine, since we're still looking for contributors, feel free to either e-mail me at gogobunnysuitmaker@yahoo.com (yeah, i know), or leave a comment! |

so, seeing as how i work for an electronics store [best buy] if we sell cheesy $3 dvds, i just might convince myself to buy one. I bought Independence Day and i have been loling about its awfulness since i put it in. then i went to wikipedia and found this.
Sequel
The possibility of a sequel had long been discussed,[81] and Devlin once stated that the world's reaction to the September 11th attacks influenced him to strongly consider making a sequel to the film.[82][83] Devlin began writing an outline for a script with Emmerich,[84] but in May 2004, Emmerich said that he and Devlin had attempted to "figure out a way how to continue the story", but that this ultimately failed. No serious discussions in planning a sequel have been in the works since.
sci-fi movies with trade centers just seems....embarrassing. |

Philosophy on website registration
|
Aug. 6th, 2008 @ 11:14 pm
|
|---|
|
Registration keeps out good posters. People with lives will tend to ignore forums with a registration process. Registration lets in bad posters. Children and Internet addicts tend to have free time to go register an account and check their e-mail for the confirmation message. They will generally make your forum a waste of bandwidth. Registration attracts trolls. If someone is interested in destroying a forum, a registration process only adds to the excitement of a challenge. Trolls are not out to protect their own reputation. They seek to destroy other peoples' "reputation" Anonymity counters vanity. On a forum where registration is required, or even where people give themselves names, a clique is developed of the elite users, and posts deal as much with who you are as what you are posting. On an anonymous forum, if you can't tell who posts what, logic will overrule vanity.
